Grandeur Housing Ltd., a construction company based in Winkler, Manitoba, pleaded guilty to two charges under Saskatchewan's Occupational Health and Safety legislation in Estevan Provincial Court.
The company was fined a total of $1,200.
The charges resulted from a routine inspection of a worksite in Alameda, Saskatchewan. The charges were for failure to use a fall protection system and failure to ensure that a ladder being used by workers extended at least one meter above the roof.
Two additional charges against Grandeur Housing Ltd., were stayed.
OHS has a zero tolerance approach to violations of fall protection legislation. In 2010/11, there have been 34 convictions for non-compliance of OHS regulations related to protecting workers from falls, resulting in total fines and penalties in these cases of $72,780.
