SASKATCHEWAN HERITAGE FOUNDATION NOVEMBER GRANTS ALLOCATED

Released on December 21, 2011

The Saskatchewan Heritage Foundation continues to work with communities and organizations to preserve the province's architectural heritage and maintain its cultural treasures.

Today the Saskatchewan Heritage Foundation announced the results of its second and final grant adjudication for the 2011-2012 fiscal year. A total of 31 proposals were reviewed and $128,875 was allocated to 19 initiatives. Individual grants ranged from $775 for an archaeological research project to analyze artifacts obtained from the Camp Rayner site, near Outlook, to $20,000 to help preserve the former St. Walburg Roman Catholic Church, now used as a community museum.

"The Saskatchewan Heritage Foundation's grant programs help communities, agencies and individuals across the province preserve our shared heritage," Tourism, Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Bill Hutchinson said. "Heritage attracts business, promotes tourism and creates a distinctive community character - building a stronger Saskatchewan."

"Financial support to various heritage-themed initiatives adds to the knowledge base of our province through research projects and engages youth through support for the Saskatchewan Youth Heritage Fairs," Saskatchewan Heritage Foundation Chair Wesley Moore said. "The foundation's grant program assistance helps preserve our stories, significant heritage properties and shared values for the benefit of present and future generations."

The Saskatchewan Heritage Foundation is a government agency that works closely with the Heritage Resources Branch of the Ministry of Tourism, Parks, Culture and Sport. The foundation acquires, manages and develops real and moveable property in the name of the Crown and accepts the donation of cash monies, property and other bequests.
