Released on December 16, 2011
On December 7, 2011, Wintringham Roofing Ltd. of Saskatoon pleaded guilty to two counts under the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act related to a failure to use a fall protection system and a failure to ensure all work at a place of employment was sufficiently and competently supervised.
The company was fined $2,500 in Saskatoon Provincial Court.
The conviction related to an inspection that took place on July 20, 2010. An Occupational Health Officer observed three workers on a three story high roof without fall protection. Three other charges against the company were stayed.
OHS conducts about 4,500 worksite inspections annually to ensure standards are known, understood and enforced and investigates where workers are killed or seriously injured in a work related incident.
