There is more good news about the Saskatchewan economy today with two positive reports from Statistics Canada on new motor vehicle sales and manufacturing shipments.
"The new vehicles parked in driveways across the province show how economic growth is making a difference for Saskatchewan families," Enterprise Minister Jeremy Harrison said. "Saskatchewan's success is well earned as strong manufacturing numbers are a testament to the hard work of this province's people."
New motor vehicle sales were up 23.1 per cent on an annual basis this October over October 2010, the highest in the country and well ahead of the 3.1 per cent recorded nationally, seasonally adjusted.
On a monthly basis, Saskatchewan ranked second in the nation, up 11.8 per cent and well ahead of the 3.3 per cent national average.
Annually, manufacturing shipments were up by 19.1 per cent in October 2011 when compared to the previous year (seasonally adjusted).
Saskatchewan manufacturers had the highest percentage rate increase among the provinces, well ahead of the 7.3 per cent posted nationally. Manufacturing was up 1.2 per cent in October 2011 compared to September of this year, the second highest percentage increase in the nation and better than the 0.8 per cent decline experienced nationally.
