G.M. Construction Ltd. has plead guilty to three charges under The Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act in Carlyle Provincial Court.
The company was charged after an OHS officer conducted a routine inspection of a worksite in Carlyle in July, 2010.
G.M. Construction Ltd. was fined a total of $1,560 for:
- failure to ensure that workers use a fall protection system where a worker may fall three metres or more;
- failure to provide and/or require workers to use appropriate protective headwear; and
- failure to ensure that all work at a place of employment was sufficiently and competently supervised.
Four additional charges against G.M. Construction Ltd. were stayed in court.
Injuries caused by falls represent almost 13 per cent of all workplace injuries reported. OHS has a zero tolerance approach to violations of fall protection.
OHS conducts about 4,000 worksite inspections annually to ensure standards are known, understood and enforced.
