Statistics Canada released retail sales figures today for February 2011 and Saskatchewan's sales had the highest percentage increase in the country on a year-over-year basis (seasonally adjusted).
Between February 2010 and February 2011, retail sales rose by 6.5 per cent, the largest percentage increase among the provinces. Retail sales were up by 3.7 per cent nationally over the same period.
"There is a strong consumer confidence that is emerging in Saskatchewan," Enterprise Saskatchewan Minister Jeremy Harrison said. "We are expected to have the strongest economy in Canada this year and next. Businesses and families are feeling confident enough to make small and large purchases that lead to a better quality of life."
Saskatchewan's retail sales increased by 0.4 per cent between January 2011 and February 2011. Nationally, retail sales were also up 0.4 per cent over the same period.
