LUMSDEN AREA CONTRACTOR FINED FOR SAFETY VIOLATION

Released on April 21, 2011

Laron Builders Ltd. has plead guilty to one charge under The Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act.

The company was charged after an OHS officer conducted a routine inspection of a worksite in Regina in April, 2010.

Laron Builders Ltd. plead guilty to failing to ensure that workers use a fall protection system where a worker may fall three metres or more. The contractor was fined $840.

Two additional charges against Laron Builders Ltd. were stayed in court.

Injuries caused by falls represent almost 13 per cent of all workplace injuries reported. OHS has a zero tolerance approach to violations of fall protection.

OHS conducts about 4,000 worksite inspections annually to ensure standards are known, understood and enforced.
