Reducing pollution is important to Saskatchewan drivers and the Saskatchewan Government is making it easier to make environmentally friendly choices by delivering SGI rebates for fuel-efficient vehicles.
"Vehicles that use less fuel are better for family budgets and better for the environment," Minister responsible for SGI Tim McMillan said. "The Saskatchewan Government is making the environmentally friendly choice an even better deal with the Go Green rebate that lowers insurance bills by 20 per cent for fuel-efficient vehicles."
The rebate applies to all hybrid vehicles, as well as vehicles meeting Transport Canada's ecoAUTO thresholds for fuel efficiency, for model years 2006 and newer. Owners of hybrid and qualifying fuel-efficient vehicles will receive a 20 per cent rebate on their 2010 Auto Fund insurance and registration costs.
Approximately 14,000 vehicle owners will receive an average rebate of about $210 this year. Last year, 10,750 customers received rebates averaging $195. Customers will receive their rebate cheques by early May.
"It's very encouraging to see the number of 'green' vehicle owners receiving a rebate has grown each year," McMillan said. "It is good for our environment and it is good for our economy."
The Green Rebate program was launched in 2008 as part of the Saskatchewan Government's Go Green plan to help Saskatchewan residents make environmentally friendly choices.
