STUDENT AWARDED PRESTIGIOUS LESTER B. PEARSON SCHOLARSHIP

Released on April 18, 2011

Saskatchewan student, Nicholas Carverhill, was awarded a full scholarship to fund his participation in the world-renowned International Baccalaureate Program at Lester B. Pearson United World College in British Columbia.

Carverhill, from Walter Murray Collegiate in Saskatoon, will receive a prestigious annual provincial scholarship worth more than $60,000 from the Ministry of Education. Caverhill will be an ambassador for Saskatchewan as he interacts with students from other countries during his two-year stay at the college.

"This will provide Mr. Carverhill with the opportunity to excel academically, to become involved in service activities, and to gain an increased understanding and tolerance for world cultures," Education Minister Donna Harpauer said. "This scholarship will allow him to gain a vast amount of knowledge. I hope he will choose to use this knowledge to pursue a career here in Saskatchewan."

Carverhill will join last year's recipient, Aneri Garg from Marion M. Graham Collegiate in Saskatoon, at the College this fall.

Pearson College is one of ten United World Colleges established on five continents throughout the world. Located near Victoria, British Columbia, the college creates a dynamic international community where 200 young people from 100 countries live, study and serve the community together. All students attend on full scholarship.
