Advanced Education, Employment and Immigration has appointed Dr. Brian Gillespie to develop a quality assurance review process that could be used to assess applications for new degree-granting institutions and programs in Saskatchewan.
Gillespie is the former president of the British Columbia Institute of Technology and the first chair of the B.C. Provincial Degree Quality Assessment Board.
"I'm delighted that we have been able to secure the services of Dr. Gillespie," Advanced Education, Employment and Immigration Minister Rob Norris said. "He is well respected in British Columbia for his work on quality assurance in post-secondary education."
The government announced in February, 2011 that it would launch public consultations to consider expanding degree granting status in the province. The development of the quality assurance review process is expected to be completed by the summer of 2012.
"We have now delivered on our plan to recruit independent consultants, to launch public consultations and to begin work on a quality assurance process," Norris said. "If the government decides to expand degree-granting authority, we will ensure that a rigorous quality assurance process is in place to evaluate applications."
