SASKATCHEWAN ARCHIVES CELEBRATES CULTURE DAYS

Released on September 24, 2010

Members of the public are invited to attend "Monkeying Around with Archives" on September 25, from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Regina's Government House.

"Saturday's event is a great opportunity to come out to Government House to celebrate and explore Saskatchewan's story," Minister responsible for the Provincial Capital Commission Bill Hutchinson said. "It's an experience that will highlight and celebrate our provincial capital and its history."

"This free event offers children an excellent introduction to the world of historical records and archives," Provincial Archivist Linda McIntyre said. "Activities focused on early Saskatchewan schools, family history and discovering the past of Government House will enable boys and girls to encounter secrets in the stories of our province."

As part of Culture Days, archivists from the Saskatchewan Archives Board, as well as Athol Murray College of Notre Dame Archives and Museum, the Prairie History Room, Regina Public Library and members of the Saskatchewan Genealogical Society, will be on hand to chat and provide hands on experience with micrographic, photographic, textual and digital resources.

The Provincial Capital Commission was established in March 2010, with the goal of promoting and preserving the distinct heritage and cultural entities within the capital city, including the Saskatchewan Archives, Wascana Centre Authority, Government House, Conexus Arts Centre and the Territorial Building.
