ENTERPRISE SASKATCHEWAN SIGNS MOU WITH GUJARAT, INDIA COUNTERPART

Released on September 9, 2010

A visit to Regina by a high-level business delegation from the State of Gujarat, India has produced a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). The MOU will focus on building relationships and supporting business between Saskatchewan and one of the province's largest export markets.

The delegation, consisting of Chief Executive Officers from a number of Indian multinational companies are travelling across Canada and today met with an array of Saskatchewan business representatives. The companies have interests in oil and gas, power and energy, green energy, chemicals and fertilizers, pharmaceuticals and biotechnology. The MOU signed yesterday is between the Enterprise Saskatchewan and iNDEXTb, which is the industrial extension bureau of the Government of Gujarat. It is composed of regional business leaders acting as a collective voice in promoting trade and foreign direct investment in Gujarat and abroad.

"It is worth noting that iNDEXTb is comparable in many ways to Enterprise Saskatchewan in its responsibilities and activities," Enterprise Minister Jeremy Harrison said. "Like the Government of Saskatchewan, the Government of Gujarat is very serious about attracting business, forging international partnerships, and encouraging economic activity that is both substantial and mutually beneficial. This MOU helps to address all of these priorities."

Gujarat is India's leading industrialized state, with five per cent of the country's population and contributing 21 per cent in exports and 13 per cent of India's industrial production. Saskatchewan has built a positive and prosperous relationship with Gujarat in recent years, including various delegations to explore investment opportunities and business connections.
