SASKTEL 3G+ COVERAGE FOR 29 MORE LOCATIONS

SaskTel has expanded its 3G+ wireless network to 29 more locations across the province of Saskatchewan.

"Construction of the 3G+ network is a significant development for SaskTel and its customers in Saskatchewan," Minister responsible for SaskTel Bill Boyd, said. "When the network is complete in 2011 it will be available to 98 per cent of the population."

"Our 3G+ wireless network delivers increased bandwidth, greater international roaming and a wider selection of wireless devices," SaskTel President and CEO Ron Styles said. "3G+ is the new industry standard and will enable SaskTel to make a smooth transition to future generations of wireless technology."

The 29 tower locations, along with 3G+ coverage details, are:

  • Beechy: provides coverage to the town of Beechy and the surrounding area including Highway 42 north of Beechy.
  • Benson and Bienfait: provides coverage to the area north of Estevan, the town of Bienfait and along Highway 18 east of Estevan.
  • Blumenhof: provides coverage to the area south of Swift Current including Highway 4.
  • Bruno and Dana: provides coverage to the towns of Bruno and Dana and along Highway 5 east of Saskatoon.
  • Climax and Orkney: provides coverage in the southwest corner of the province including Highway 18 from Val Marie to west of Climax. 
  • Cudworth and Middle Lake: provides coverage to the area northeast of Saskatoon including the towns of Cudworth and Middle Lake.
  • Eastend: provides coverage to the town of Eastend and the surrounding area including Highway 13 from west of Shaunavon to east of Robsart.
  • Eyebrow: provides coverage to the town of Eyebrow and along Highway 42 northwest of Moose Jaw.
  • Francis and Osage: provides coverage to the towns of Francis and Osage and along Highway 33 southeast of Regina.
  • Green Lake and Green Lake Rural: provides coverage to the community of Green Lake and along Highway 55 between Meadow Lake and Green Lake.
  • Hodgeville: provides coverage to the town of Hodgeville and the surrounding area including Highway 19 south of Morse.
  • Humboldt and Annaheim: provides coverage to the city of Humboldt and the town of Annaheim and along Highway 5 east of Saskatoon.
  • Luseland Rural and Macklin Rural: provides coverage in the oil and gas regions southeast of Macklin.
  • Ponteix and Ponteix Rural: provides coverage to the town of Ponteix and the surrounding area including Highway 13 from Cadillac to west of Kincaid.
  • Rhein: provides coverage to the area northeast of Yorkton including the town of Rhein.
  • Shaunavon South: provides coverage to the area south of Shaunavon including Highway 37 between Shaunavon and Climax.
  • St. Walburg and Paradise Hill: provides coverage to the towns of St. Walburg and Paradise Hill including coverage along Highway 3 and Highway 21 in the vicinity of Paradise Hill.
  • Vanguard: provides coverage to the town of Vanguard and the surrounding area including Highway 43 east and west of Vanguard.
  • Wilkie: provides coverage to the town of Wilkie.

The 3G+ network provides increased bandwidth with download speeds approximately four times faster than existing speeds (up to 21 megabits per second). It is also compatible with approximately 80 per cent of all networks across the world and international roaming customers will be able to use their SaskTel 3G+ device on 3G+ networks anywhere.

SaskTel plans to support the existing CDMA digital network for the foreseeable future to ensure that all wireless customers continue to enjoy a full selection of wireless services that best suit their needs.
