OPENING OF NEW MEADOW LAKE PROVINCIAL COURT FACILITY

Released on November 26, 2010

Justice Minister and Attorney General Don Morgan joined Enterprise Minister and Meadow Lake MLA Jeremy Harrison and the citizens of Meadow Lake today to announce the opening of the new Provincial Court facility.

"Providing suitable court houses and improving access to courts in northern Saskatchewan is important for our government," Morgan said. "The new court facility is designed to provide improved space and security for witnesses, victims, judges, counsel, staff, accused and the public."

The design of the building is based on modern courthouse planning that emphasizes efficiency, and anticipates future needs and the growing use of technology.

"The architectural vision is to create a simple, clean and dignified courthouse," Friggstad Downing Henry Architects Partner Keith Henry said. "Extensive use of natural light and natural materials in the public space creates an open quality and a cohesive experience linking together waiting areas, the exterior and adjacent courtrooms."

The new Meadow Lake Court facility will address the needs of people from Meadow Lake and surrounding area.
