Provincial Secretary Donna Harpauer launched two online educational booklets today that celebrate the history of our provincial symbols and the contributions of our most outstanding citizens.
"Our symbols are steeped in the traditions and heritage of our province and are as unique as the people they represent," Harpauer said. "And the members of the Order of Merit are symbols themselves; symbols of the calibre of achievement and excellence that we have come to expect from the people of Saskatchewan."
Images of a Province: Symbols of Saskatchewan is an easy to read booklet that describes how the emblems and official symbols of Saskatchewan came to be, what they are and what they mean. The first edition was launched in print in May 2002 as a tribute to Queen Elizabeth II during her Golden Jubilee.
25 Years: Saskatchewan Order of Merit commemorates the history of our province highest honour and the contributions that the recipients of the Order have made to the well-being of our province. It contains the biographies of each of the 168 members who have been invested to the Order, including the 12 members invested in 2009 at the time of the Order's 25th anniversary.
The booklets will be promoted within Saskatchewan schools.
"These booklets are a great educational resource for teachers or anyone wanting to learn more about the rich and dynamic history of Saskatchewan's symbols and real life heroes," Harpauer said.
