SPEECH AND HEARING AWARENESS MONTH PROCLAIMED IN SASKATCHEWAN

Released on May 12, 2010

Social Services Minister Donna Harpauer has proclaimed May 2010 as Speech and Hearing Awareness Month in Saskatchewan.

"Our government supports the goal of a world without barriers for people who are deaf, deafened or hard of hearing," Harpauer said. "Promoting this objective is the primary mission of Saskatchewan Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services, and we are pleased to support that organization and its work with this proclamation."

"Throughout the month of May, our organization will be striving to raise public awareness of the needs of deaf and hard of hearing people, as well as provide information about the services being provided to them by a variety of agencies throughout the province," Saskatchewan Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services Executive Director Roger Carver said. "Raising awareness is one of the ways that we can help overcome barriers for people who are deaf or hard of hearing, and we are pleased that the month of May 2010 has accordingly been proclaimed Speech and Hearing Awareness Month."

Saskatchewan Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services has been providing services to people who are deaf, deafened or hard of hearing since 1981.
