Export sales in Saskatchewan were up 14.3 per cent in March 2010 when compared with March 2009, the third highest percentage increase among the provinces and well ahead of the 7.7 per cent recorded on a national basis.
In the first three months of 2010, export sales were up 10.5 per cent over the first three months of 2009. Saskatchewan was ranked third highest in the nation over this same period.
"Saskatchewan is an export province and the higher increases were mainly in the energy and industrial areas, partly due to higher oil prices and vast improvements on the potash front," Enterprise Minister Ken Cheveldayoff said. "The rebound in export sales for the first quarter of 2010 is definitely good news and will hopefully continue as we progress through the rest of the year."
Exports in March 2010 totalled $2.12 billion. Energy products increased by 46.1 per cent March 2010 over March 2009, while industrial goods were up 35.9 per cent over the same period.
