EFFICIENCIES PROPEL ISC AND SGEU AGREEMENT

Released on May 7, 2010

The tentative agreement between Information Services Corporation (ISC) and the Saskatchewan Government and General Employees' Union (SGEU) Local 2214 has been ratified. It provides for annual increases of 1.5 per cent, 3 per cent and 3.25 per cent respectively. The agreement rewards efficiencies found in the areas of recruitment and leave, while providing pension plan contribution increases and enhanced dental plan benefits.

"I'm very pleased with the results of these negotiations, and the fair and balanced agreement that recognizes the efficiencies found by both parties," Minister responsible for ISC June Draude said. "I congratulate everyone involved for the successful and speedy conclusion of the bargaining process."

The collective agreement, which covers 193 members, extends three years from October 1, 2009 (retroactive) to September 30, 2012.

"I am excited with the outcome of this ratification vote," ISC Union Chairperson Barb Wright said. "We had great voter turnout and an overwhelming acceptance of the package. I also want to thank ISC and their team for the support of employee issues and that we were able, so aptly, to bring resolution to this agreement."

In interest-based bargaining, both parties collaborate to find a "win-win" solution, focusing on developing mutually beneficial agreements based on the interests of both parties.

The tentative agreement was reached April 6, 2010, after a total of nine days of bargaining following the interest-based bargaining process. The agreement was ratified by SGEU Local 2214 membership on May 6.
