AGREEMENTS SIGNED FOR FIRST NATIONS UNIVERSITY

Released on May 4, 2010

Advanced Education, Employment and Labour Minister Rob Norris today announced the signing of a $5.2 million funding agreement between First Nations University of Canada (FNUniv), the University of Regina (U of R) and Meyers Norris Penny Limited (MNP). Under the agreement, MNP will administer the funding and provide regular financial reports.

"I'm pleased to follow through on our commitment to provide stable funding to support the students of FNUniv," Norris said. "This agreement is the result of the hard work of all the partners to fulfill their obligations under the MOU that was signed in March and I congratulate them on their efforts."

The U of R and FNUniv have also signed two additional agreements - a Liaison Agreement and an Administrative Services Contract. These agreements strengthen the partnership between the two institutions and facilitate strong support to FNUniv in the areas of administration, financial management and governance.

"The signing of these agreements has enabled me to continue lobbying the federal government to invest in the partnership and ensure the remaining $4.2 million in federal funding stays in Saskatchewan," Norris said.
