Heavy rain-stricken Saskatchewan communities and individuals may be eligible to claim for financial assistance from the Provincial Disaster Assistance Program (PDAP), administered by the Ministry of Corrections, Public Safety and Policing.
PDAP provides financial assistance to municipalities and individuals for uninsurable, essential property damaged by a natural disaster such as flooding, tornadoes, plough winds and severe weather.
"The impact of the heavy rains that I saw when I toured the Maple Creek area last Saturday was truly astonishing," Corrections, Public Safety and Policing Minister D.F. (Yogi) Huyghebaert said. "Residents of Maple Creek and all other communities hard-hit by flooding resulting from recent downpours should know that financial assistance can be available to them through PDAP."
Officials from PDAP are working with Maple Creek, and residents and businesses in other communities around the province. Other officials from Corrections, Public Safety and Policing have been providing other response and recovery support when needed.
Communities and individuals from areas of the province other than Maple Creek who experienced losses related to the recent heavy rainfall can provide information about their location and value of damaged property to their local municipal office. Local officials will help determine if the losses or damage meet PDAP criteria.
