Pro Image Roofing and Gutters Ltd. of Prince Albert has pleaded guilty to 16 charges under Saskatchewan's Occupational Health and Safety Regulations. The company was fined a total of $5,760 in provincial court.
The charges include failure by the company to provide and require workers to use protective headwear and appropriate footwear; failure to use a fall protection system; failure to ensure the safe use of ladders; failure to ensure all work was sufficiently and competently supervised; and failure to develop and implement a written fall protection plan.
All 13 charges against Pro Image supervisor, Steve McCreary, were stayed by the Crown.
The charges arose from three separate inspections by Occupational Health Officers at construction worksites in Prince Albert, dating from early April 2008 to June 2009.
OHS conducts approximately 4,000 workplace inspections each year with about 35 per cent of those checks occurring at construction sites. Fatalities and injuries in construction continue to be amongst the highest of any industry in Saskatchewan.
