PROVINCIAL DISASTER ASSISTANCE PROGRAM CONTINUES TO PAY FLOOD VICTIMS

Released on July 22, 2010

Cheques for $3,000 have been issued to nearly 950 flood damage victims in Maple Creek, Saskatoon and Yorkton under the Provincial Disaster Assistance Program (PDAP).

Corrections, Public Safety and Policing Minister D.F. (Yogi) Huyghebaert said the government has responded to this summer's severe flooding by taking the unprecedented step of getting preliminary cheques out a quickly as possible, before the claims are adjusted.

"Our government is committed to helping residents affected by the unprecedented severe weather," Huyghebaert said. "We have moved quickly to offer support to residents and municipalities, and will continue to make that assistance available so that victims can start the recovery process."

"It's important to remember these are preliminary cheques. Those who suffered damages of greater than $3,000 will receive further assistance as their claims are adjusted."

As of Friday July 23, 2010, the province will have delivered cheques for $3,000 to a total of 947 residents in Maple Creek, Yorkton and Saskatoon.

The total number of PDAP claims from Saskatchewan residents to date this year is 1,198. This includes 402 by residents and businesses of Maple Creek, 395 in Yorkton and 184 in Saskatoon. By July 23rd, cheques will have been issued to all 402 PDAP claimants in Maple Creek, all 395 claimants in Yorkton, and 150 of the 184 claimants in Saskatoon.
