REGINA ROOFER GUILTY OF SAFETY VIOLATIONS

Released on July 21, 2010

Deluxe (Aries) Roofing Ltd. of Regina has pleaded guilty to four charges under Saskatchewan's Occupational Health and Safety regulations and been fined a total of $6,720.

The safety violations included three charges for failure to use a fall protection system where a worker may fall three metres or more, and one charge for failure to provide and require workers to use protective headwear. Six additional charges against Deluxe Roofing Ltd. were stayed in court.

The charges arose after three separate routine inspections by Occupational Health and Safety Officers at construction sites in Regina and White City in 2009.

This case brings the number of convictions for violations of Saskatchewan's Occupational Health and Safety legislation in 2010-11 to 19, compared with a total of 11 in the previous year.

OHS conducts approximately 4,000 worksite inspections annually to ensure standards are known, understood and enforced.
