Four Habitat for Humanity partner families in Saskatoon will soon realize their dream of home ownership, thanks to a $200,000 funding commitment from the Saskatchewan Housing Corporation.
"Our government is pleased to work with Habitat for Humanity to help provide more affordable housing choices for Saskatchewan families in need of assistance," Saskatoon Sutherland MLA Joceline Schriemer said on behalf of Minister of Social Services and Minister Responsible for Saskatchewan Housing Corporation June Draude. "Owning a home is a dream that we all share, and projects such as this provide opportunities for communities to work together to make this dream a reality."
"Our purpose at Habitat for Humanity Saskatoon is to strengthen communities by providing homes for low-income, working families and encouraging all members of the community to become involved in the building of these homes," Habitat for Humanity Saskatoon Executive Director Barb Cox-Lloyd said. "This can become a reality due to our partnership with Saskatchewan Housing Corporation and the vital funding we receive from the Government of Saskatchewan. With this assistance we help provide a safe and affordable place for families to live and provide stability for their children."
The funding is part of the $1 million investment announced on April 1 to assist Habitat for Humanity's Saskatchewan affiliates in providing 20 homes for lower-income Saskatchewan families in housing need. This funding is on top of the $1 million that was announced by the province in March 2009.
Two duplexes will be adjoined to accommodate four townhouse units located at 309 Camponi Crescent in Saskatoon.
