GOVERNMENT AND CUPE RATIFY PUBLIC SERVICE AGREEMENT

Released on July 6, 2010

A tentative settlement between the Government of Saskatchewan and the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 600, has been ratified by both parties.

"I am pleased that we now have collective agreements in place for all unionized employees in government ministries," Minister responsible for the Public Service Commission June Draude said. "I'd like to thank everyone involved for their work in negotiating this deal."

The agreement covers about 650 public service employees, most of whom work at Valley View Centre in Moose Jaw.

The agreement extends three years from October 1, 2009 to September 30, 2012, and provides annual increases of 1.5 per cent, 2 per cent and 2 per cent respectively.

The increases are the same as were provided earlier this year to employees in government ministries who are members of the Saskatchewan Government and General Employees Union. Similar increases have also been provided for out-of-scope employees.

"This is a fair and balanced agreement for the union, the government, and most importantly, the people of Saskatchewan" Draude said.
