Rob Clarke, MP for Desnethé-Missinippi-Churchill River on behalf of Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, and Saskatchewan Municipal Affairs Minister and Meadow Lake MLA Jeremy Harrison announced funding to strengthen economic opportunities in Goodsoil. Funding for this investment is being provided under the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program, a major job creating investment from Canada's Economic Action Plan.
"Our government, through Canada's Economic Action Plan, is taking steps to reduce the effects of the economic slowdown," said Clarke. "The local rink is an important part of our community. It brings us together as families, friends and neighbours to learn new skills, exchange ideas, get fit and healthy and have fun."
The local rink of the Village of Goodsoil will be receiving $5,000 from both the Government of Canada and Government of Saskatchewan to fix the existing sound system. These funds will no doubt improve the quality of the rink, help stimulate the local economy and bring the community together as a whole.
"The Government of Saskatchewan understands the importance of these improvements to healthy and active communities," Harrison said. "Our investment in these projects will increase recreational opportunities that will benefit the whole community. This funding shows our commitment to the Village of Goodsoil."
The RInC program will invest $500 million in recreational facilities across Canada over a two-year period. It will provide a temporary economic stimulus that will help reduce the impacts of the global recession while renewing, upgrading and expanding recreational infrastructure in Canadian communities. A total of almost $163 million in RinC funding will be invested across the four western provinces.
RInC is part of Canada's Economic Action Plan, the Government of Canada's multi-faceted stimulus plan that will ensure a quick recovery from the current economic downturn. Western Economic Diversification Canada is delivering the initiative in the four western provinces.
