Agriculture Minister Bob Bjornerud will travel to the United States January 27-29 to raise awareness of Saskatchewan's agriculture industry.
Bjornerud will meet with grains and meat processing companies in Colorado, Iowa and Minnesota to highlight Saskatchewan's potential and promote investment opportunities in the province. In addition, he will also meet with industry and government representatives to discuss trade issues, such as Country of Origin Labelling.
"The U.S. is our largest trading partner, and it's important we work to overcome existing barriers, explore new market opportunities and attract investment that will benefit Saskatchewan producers," Bjornerud said. "This will be an excellent opportunity to promote what our producers and our province have to offer."
Several industry representatives will accompany Bjornerud on this mission, including Jack Hextall, Chair, Saskatchewan Cattlemen's Association (SCA); Brad Wildeman, Chair, Canadian Cattlemen's Association; Joe Kleinsasser, Past President of SaskPork; Dwayne Anderson, Chair, Saskatchewan Oat Development Commission and Steve Primrose, Chair, Canadian Cattle Identification Agency.
"The SCA is pleased to work with Minister Bjornerud and our industry partners to bridge relations with our largest trading partner," Hextall said. "This will help to further enhance trade opportunities, which will benefit our producers."
"This is an important step in growing our relationship with our biggest customer," Kleinsasser said. "I hope the work we do on this trade mission will help address some of the challenges currently facing hog producers."
"Saskatchewan is a leader in oat production and the U.S. is a major export market," Anderson said. "Meeting with key industry companies and stakeholders will help open the door to further opportunities for oat producers."
