BOYD HEADS OIL AND GAS INVESTMENT AND CCS MISSION TO ASIA

Energy and Resources Minister Bill Boyd will be telling Saskatchewan's dynamic story on its oil and gas resources and carbon capture and storage to potential investors in China and Japan, starting next week.

Boyd is leading a government investment mission to Hong Kong, Beijing and Tokyo January 25 to February 5. The minister and government officials will promote oil and gas opportunities at an investment seminar in Beijing (January 28) and hold meetings in the three cities with Asian companies that have existing investments in the province as well as with firms for whom Saskatchewan oil and gas investment may be a good fit.

The Saskatchewan delegation will also promote the province's and SaskPower's leading-edge work on carbon capture and storage and related technologies. As well, the minister will participate in several meetings on mineral investment opportunities.

"We've actively promoted Saskatchewan's mineral resource opportunities in Asia and over the past four years companies have responded with announcements of more than $145 million in intended investments in the province," Boyd said. "But there are also many opportunities on the oil and gas side for Asian investors, and through this trip and our promotional efforts, we want to acquaint them with those opportunities."

Among the companies Boyd and his officials will meet with are the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), the China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), Sinopec, Hitachi and Toshiba.

"Saskatchewan is an energy powerhouse that has weathered the global financial crisis and is well positioned for more growth," Boyd said. "We are energy-rich, research-driven and investment-friendly, and what I'll be conveying to business people in China and Japan is a strong message of the energy, innovation and opportunity that await them here."

Boyd will be accompanied on the mission by officials from Energy and Resources, SaskPower and Enterprise Saskatchewan.
