After fire damaged Knotty Pine Manor in December 2007, the 19-unit housing development for seniors officially reopened today in Moosomin. The reconstruction was undertaken by the Saskatchewan Housing Corporation and the Moosomin Housing Authority.
"There is no question that this reconstruction project is a valuable one for the community," Moosomin MLA Don Toth said on behalf of Social Services Minister and Minister responsible for Saskatchewan Housing Corporation Donna Harpauer. "The reopening of these units will help residents who have lived and worked here their entire lives stay close to family and friends, as well as meet the need for safe, affordable housing right here in Moosomin."
While keeping the original building design and character, the project is more functional and features more usable space to meet the residents' needs. It includes the construction of two two-bedroom units and two one-bedroom wheelchair accessible units, an improved lounge and kitchen area, a central laundry service and an assisted bathing room for tenants who require additional support.
"Our government is committed to working with our partners to help maintain the quality of life of Saskatchewan seniors, and affordable housing is an important part of that," Toth said.
