PAVILION ATTENDANCE REACHES 100,000

Released on February 25, 2010

More than 100,000 people have visited the Saskatchewan Pavilion at the Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver so far.

"Rain or shine, weekday or weekend, we have been lined up," Tourism, Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Dustin Duncan said. "This has far surpassed my expectations and with only a few days left I'd like to encourage anyone who hasn't yet seen our pavilion to drop in."

Initial projections were that about 5,000 people a day would pass through the pavilion. So far, on average, more than 7,500 pass through each day.

Among the popular attractions have been the green screen, where visitors can get their photo taken in front of a Saskatchewan backdrop - nearly 7,000 photos have been taken to date.

Also popular is a photo with the Mounties. Two RCMP officers have been at the pavilion on a rotating basis and they are busy posing for photos the entire time they're at the pavilion.

Bison burgers continue to be the most popular food item, with more than 9,000 being sold so far. About 4,000 perogies and 2,800 Saskatoon berry tarts have also been sold.

"Whether people go into our Saskatchewan Experience Centre and learn about Saskatchewan by reading our factoids or whether they learn about our province by sampling some of our food and listening to our musicians, they are being exposed to our culture and that is the ultimate goal," Director of Marketing and Production Trent Fraser said.
