SASKATCHEWAN ANNOUNCES SASK DAY PRODUCTION PLANS

Released on February 11, 2010

The province of Saskatchewan is proud to announce its production plans for February 23 at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games.

February 23 has been designated as "Saskatchewan Day" as part of VANOC's Contributing Province/Territory Program (CPTP).

The highlight of the day is a 30-minute live production at the Victory Ceremony in Vancouver's BC Place Stadium, which takes place right before the medal presentations.

Saskatchewan's show will include performances by Kyle Riabko from Saskatoon, the Whitefish Juniors from Big River and Library Voices from Regina. The show will be hosted by the creator and star of the Canadian sitcom Corner Gas, Brent Butt.

"What a great ambassador for our province - he's funny, famous and from Saskatchewan," Tourism, Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Dustin Duncan said. "Brent's talent, combined with our musical performers and our Emmy award-winning producer Ron Goetz, will make this a memorable presentation."

The show will be available for networks to pick up and broadcast around the world, so it could potentially reach millions of viewers.

"The combination of Brent's humour, our incredible musical artists and video of our beautiful province will make for a really dynamic show," Partners in Motion Executive Producer and CEO Ron Goetz said. "I'm so pleased to have the opportunity to work on this project, and am so proud to call Saskatchewan home."

In addition to the 30-minute live production, three 30-second promotional videos of Saskatchewan will be played throughout the day at all the Olympic sporting venues. The three videos, set to music, each have a theme: Tourism; Quality of Life; and Opportunity.

Olympic Gold Medalist Joan McCusker will help host various activities on Saskatchewan Day.
