Effective October 2010, Corporations Branch will transfer from the Ministry of Justice to Information Services Corporation (ISC).
"Corporations Branch is already providing excellent service to the business community in Saskatchewan," Justice Minister Don Morgan said. "This move will leverage ISC's significant registry expertise, core competencies and infrastructure to enhance and further evolve service delivery to the business community in the future."
Corporations Branch is the primary contact point for almost all businesses in Saskatchewan and houses key business information. It co-ordinates, promotes, develops, implements and enforces policies and programs that relate to the registration and regulation of business corporations, non-profit corporations, co-operatives and other businesses in Saskatchewan.
"ISC's core business is registry services, and Corporations Branch is a natural fit," Minister responsible for ISC June Draude said. "We value the skills and knowledge that Corporations Branch employees will bring to ISC and look forward to working together to make the transition as seamless and easy as possible for employees and customers."
ISC and Corporations Branch will be conducting a full assessment prior to the transfer to evaluate its current business registry system, as well as the estimated 40 per cent of Corporations Branch paper-based and microfiche records that can be converted to electronic format. Through its experience with the Land Titles, Land Survey and Vital Statistics registries, ISC has gained valuable experience in registry modernization, customer service, online applications and document conversion.
"ISC understands employees are valuable and will make every effort to ensure the transition of Corporations Branch staff to ISC is smooth and positive," ISC President and CEO Jeff Stusek said. "While no decision has yet been made on the physical location of Corporations Branch in October, we have committed that no current Corporations Branch employees will experience job loss as a result of the transfer."
ISC is the provincial Crown corporation responsible for the administration of land titles, vital statistics, survey and personal property registries, as well as related geographic information and mapping systems.
