The Government of Saskatchewan is providing $50,000 in one-time capital funding to Central Urban Métis Federation Inc. (CUMFI) of Saskatoon to help renovate Infinity House to provide a supportive environment for at-risk children and their families.
Once renovations are complete, Infinity House will allow children who were previously in foster care to be returned to their parents under the supervision of 24-hour staff who will work at the building. It will also allow children who might otherwise have to be apprehended to remain with their mothers.
"Following the renovations, Infinity House will be devoted to families most at risk," Social Services Minister June Draude said. "This project will result in a minimum of 12 children coming out of the ministry's care, as part of our emphasis on providing a continuum of foster care supports."
"We are pleased to partner with the Government of Saskatchewan on the renovations and program enhancements at our Infinity House resource," CUMFI President Shirley Isbister said. "Parents and children at the renovated Infinity House will receive services based on a case plan developed jointly by the parent, their family services worker, Infinity House staff, an Elder and community partners."
The funding will go toward necessary building renovations and repairs, as well as the purchase of some additional furniture to accommodate the family groups.
