A report released by Statistics Canada today shows that building permits in the province climbed significantly in October 2010.
According to the report, building permits were up 52.4 per cent in October 2010 over September 2010 (seasonally adjusted). Saskatchewan had the second highest percentage increase in the nation.
Non-residential permits were up by 105.6 per cent over the same period while residential permits were up 14.9 per cent.
"This is a significant increase in construction that is a strong indicator that our economy is picking up momentum as we finish off 2010," Enterprise Minister Jeremy Harrison said. "The amount of non-residential construction in October was double the September figure, and definitely gives us reason for optimism."
Regina had an increase of 126.6 per cent and in Saskatoon, permits rose by 23.4 per cent between September and October 2010.
