SASKATCHEWAN HOSTING COMMITTEE ON INTERNAL TRADE ANNUAL MEETING

Released on December 2, 2010

Minister responsible for Trade Jeremy Harrison will be chairing an annual meeting of federal, provincial and territorial ministers for interprovincial trade in Saskatoon tomorrow.

The Committee on Internal Trade (CIT) is responsible for the implementation of the Agreement on Internal Trade (1995) which aims to reduce and eliminate barriers to the free movement of persons, goods, services and investments across Canada. This work is critical as approximately one in five jobs in Canada depends on the trade of goods and services within the country.

"I am very pleased to welcome my colleagues from across the country to Saskatchewan and to Saskatoon, where trade is a particularly vital component of our economic growth and prosperity," Harrison said. "I anticipate a productive and meaningful discussion. The work of the CIT is central to the continued and sustainable growth of open markets within Canada."
