GOVERNMENT OF SASKATCHEWAN SUPPORTS THE REGINA REGIONAL OPPORTUNITIES COMMISSION

Released on August 11, 2010

The Government of Saskatchewan is pleased to contribute $25,000 to help the Regina Regional Opportunities Commission (RROC) develop and analyze event proposals, put together bids to host national and international events and evaluate the success of those events.

"This is an excellent opportunity to support an organization that helps highlight our capital city and our province," Tourism, Parks, Culture and Sport Minster Bill Hutchinson said. "This partnership will help Regina continue to attract world-class events from the Royal Red Horse Show to the upcoming Ford World Men's Curling Championships."

Hosting successful events in Saskatchewan such as the Juno Awards and major sporting events increases overall economic benefit for host communities and helps make Saskatchewan stronger.

"The partnership we have with Tourism, Parks, Culture and Sport allows us to put our region on the world stage," Director of Tourism for RROC Grant Langford said. "The funding aids us in enhancing the image of our city while promoting our great attractions, festivals and events."

RROC has developed an economic development strategy designed to grow and sustain prosperity in the Regina region by encouraging the attraction, development, growth and retention of business and tourism products. RROC markets and promotes the business and tourism industries and provides many services for those who live, work, visit and invest in the Regina region.

"RROC helps increase community pride, generate economic activity and profile our enviable quality of life," Hutchinson said. "Government is pleased to partner with RROC and similar agencies to ensure Saskatchewan continues to move forward."
