George Wakefield Foods Inc. of Winnipeg, Manitoba, operating in Regina, has pleaded guilty to two separate offences under Saskatchewan's Labour Standards Act and been fined a total of $720.
The company pleaded guilty to failing to pay final wages in full and in a timely fashion under Section 48 (2) and to failing to send final wages by Registered Mail to the employee's last known address under Section 48 (4).
Legal proceedings were launched against the employer after he failed to co-operate with the Labour Standards Branch.
The Labour Standards Branch of Labour Relations and Workplace Safety supports fair and equitable workplace practices through public awareness and enforcement of The Labour Standards Act and regulations as well as other labour legislation. Whenever necessary, violations will be prosecuted.
In the past four months, six employers have been convicted for violating different provisions of the legislation. Five additional prosecutions against employers are currently pending.
