INCREASE IN SASKJOBS POSTINGS A SIGN OF OPPORTUNITY IN SASKATCHEWAN

Released on August 5, 2010

A strong month of July has fueled a 6.5 per cent year-over-year increase in job postings on SaskJobs.ca.

A total of 8,875 jobs were posted to SaskJobs in July 2010, up from 8,328 in the same month last year. Vacancies were posted by employers in 244 communities across the province. Since January 1, more than 63,000 vacancies have been posted to the site.

"These numbers represent real opportunities for Saskatchewan people in every corner of our province," Advanced Education, Employment and Immigration Minister Rob Norris said. "While the number of people working in Saskatchewan has reached an all-time high, the demand for skilled workers is continuing."

Of the 8,875 jobs posted in July:

  • 71 per cent were full-time positions;
  • 54 per cent were located outside of Saskatoon and Regina; and
  • 27 per cent were in the Trades and Transport category.

July 2010 also saw more than 697,000 visits to SaskJobs.ca - a 21 per cent increase over the same month last year. So far in 2010, the site has hosted more than 5.2 million visits, compared to 4 million for the same period last year.

"Job seekers from here at home, across Canada and around the world are looking at Saskatchewan as a place of opportunity," Norris said. "Right now, there are more than 6,000 opportunities available across the province."

SaskJobs.ca is Saskatchewan's largest job-matching website. The site provides job posting services free of charge for Saskatchewan employers across the province and in every sector of the economy.
