Don Hemphill, owner of Cambary Construction pled guilty to two charges under Saskatchewan's Occupational Health and Safety Regulations and was fined a total of $1,320.
Hemphill pled guilty to one charge of contravening section 96(1) of the regulations (failure to provide and/or require workers to use appropriate footwear) and was fined $400 and a victim fine surcharge of $80. Hemphill also pled guilty to one charge of contravening section 116(2)(a) of the regulations (failure to ensure workers use a fall protection system where a worker may fall three metres or more) and was fined $600 and a victim fine surcharge of $240.
These charges were the result of a proactive routine inspection by Occupational Health Officers, who inspect workplaces around Saskatchewan throughout the year.
Occupational Health and Safety has a zero tolerance approach to non-compliance or violations of fall protection legislation.
OHS conducts approximately 4,000 workplace inspections annually and provides training to more than 4,000 employer and worker representatives each year on their safety responsibilities.
