Premier Brad Wall today officially welcomed children from Haiti, who were recently adopted by Saskatchewan families in the wake of a devastating earthquake, to their new home and province.
"The winters may be a bit colder than you're used to, but this is a wonderful place to grow up in and the best place on earth to call home," Wall said. "Saskatchewan is a province with a boundless future and endless opportunities, a province where dreams literally can come true."
At a special event at the provincial Legislature, Wall also thanked the adoptive families for the love and generosity that they have displayed by opening their hearts and homes to children from another part of the world.
"Providing a loving, nurturing family and a new beginning to a child in need through adoption is one of the greatest gifts we could ever offer as parents," Wall said.
"We're truly grateful for the stellar assistance of Social Services staff in Saskatchewan, as well as that of Citizenship and Immigration Canada, in bringing our two newest kids home from Haiti following the earthquake," Charles Kooger of Regina said. "We were able to call our caseworker night or day to find out where things were at, as we anxiously waited for our children to arrive. My wife and I are delighted that the people who helped so much with bringing them home are able to meet them today and visit with our entire family."
The Premier also thanked staff of the Ministries of Social Services and Advanced Education, Employment and Labour for their hard work in helping to expedite the adoption, immigration and relocation processes for the children and their new families.
