Saskatchewan's exports of goods totalled nearly $2 billion in February 2010 - an increase of 22.6 per cent over the same period in 2009. This places the province second overall to New Brunswick (44.3 per cent) and ahead of Alberta (19.6 per cent).
"Saskatchewan is well positioned to gain from the recovering global demand for exports," Enterprise Minister Ken Cheveldayoff said. "The world will benefit from Saskatchewan's resources and manufactured goods and that means we will be able to create more jobs and generate more revenue for our provincial economy.
Provincially, Saskatchewan's total exports of goods increased to $1.983 billion, placing the province second overall among the provinces and well ahead of the 2.6 per cent national growth percentage for February 2010 compared to the same month last year. Saskatchewan's exports in goods increased in the energy products (+73 per cent) and industrial goods (+44.8 per cent) sectors during this period. Nationally, exports increased to $30.6 billion in February 2010, from $29.8 billion in February 2009 (seasonally unadjusted).
For the first two months in 2010, Saskatchewan's exports of goods have increased by 13.6 per cent compared to the same period in 2009. Energy product and industrial product sectors lead the way increasing by 58.5 per cent and 17.5 per cent respectively. Saskatchewan ranked second among the provinces for this period, well above the national average of 1.9 per cent.
