SASKJOBS.CA TOPS 10,000 JOB POSTINGS IN MARCH, JOB POSTINGS IN 297 SASKATCHEWAN COMMUNITIES

Released on April 6, 2010

Job seekers across Saskatchewan are finding an increasing number of opportunities to choose from.

A total of 10,059 jobs were posted to the SaskJobs.ca website by Saskatchewan employers in March 2010, a 10.3 per cent increase over the same month last year and the highest monthly job total in 15 months. Jobs were available in 297 Saskatchewan communities.

Since January 1, a total of 26,678 vacancies have been posted to the site.

"SaskJobs.ca continues to be a vital hub for Saskatchewan employers and job seekers from throughout our province, across Canada and around the world," Advanced Education, Employment and Labour Minister Rob Norris said. "This increase in job listings is another indicator of our province's strong economic position and provides key opportunities for Saskatchewan people to benefit from that strength."

Of the 10,000 jobs posted in March:
• 75 per cent were full-time positions;
• 47 per cent were located outside of Saskatoon and Regina; and
• 24 per cent were in the Trades and Transport category.

March 2010 also saw more than 841,000 visits to SaskJobs.ca - a single month record, and a 30 per cent increase over the same month last year. So far in 2010, the site has hosted more than 2.2 million visits, compared to 1.6 million for the same period last year.

"Looking forward, there is reason to be optimistic about job prospects in Saskatchewan, with short- and long-term forecasts looking positive," Norris said. "Right now, there are almost 5,900 jobs available on SaskJobs.ca and that number continues to trend upward."

SaskJobs.ca is Saskatchewan's largest job-matching website. The site provides job posting services free of charge for Saskatchewan employers across the province and in every sector of the economy.
