Released on September 18, 2009

A U.S. Congressional Delegation made up of two United States Senators, a top White House official and the Governor of Montana is visiting Saskatchewan today and Saturday.

"Since taking office, our government has made a deliberate effort to tell the Saskatchewan story far and wide to keep our economy, which depends on exports moving forward," Premier Brad Wall said. "Our U.S. engagement strategy has included Washington, New York, Houston, Chicago, the Western Governors' Association and our developing relationship with Montana. A visit by these distinguished and influential American leaders is further proof our efforts are starting to bear fruit.

"The Saskatchewan story is being heard."

Visiting Saskatchewan are:

  • Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC)
  • Senator Kay Hagan (D-NC)
  • Governor Brian Schweitzer (D-MT)

Also participating in this visit is Jessica Maher, Associate Director for Congressional Affairs at the Council of Environmental Quality. Ms. Maher was appointed to the Obama Administration following a distinguished career as a Congressional staffer. She is very well versed on climate change issues.

Tonight, the delegation will join Premier Wall at a formal mess dinner and wings presentation ceremony at 15 Wing in Moose Jaw.

Tomorrow, they will visit the International Test Centre for CO2 Capture at the University of Regina and see the Weyburn-Midale CCS project in action. It's the worlds first and to date largest CO2 injection project.

The dinner at 15 Wing on Friday night as well as Premier Wall's remarks Saturday will be open to the media.
