Premier Brad Wall today expressed condolences on behalf of the people of our province to the family of Lt. Justin Garrett Boyes, who died on Wednesday, southwest of Kandahar City in Afghanistan.
"Tami and I wish to extend our sincere condolences to Lt. Boyes' wife Alana, his three-year-old son James and his parents, David and Angela," Wall said.
Lt. Boyes began his military career as a Reservist with the North Saskatchewan Regiment, joining the PPCLI full time last year.
"Earlier this week, I had the honour of signing the Reserve Forces Day proclamation, and told the assembled soldiers how they helped form an unbroken line of honour and sacrifice, stretching back to Vimy Ridge," Wall said. "Now, Lt. Boyes joins those who have made the ultimate sacrifice, those women and men who have a special place in that unbroken line."
Wall also offered his prayers for the speedy recovery of the two other soldiers injured in this incident.
Flags at the Saskatchewan Legislature will fly at half-mast until the funeral of Lt. Justin Garrett Boyes. A book of condolence for his family has been placed at the main entrance of the Saskatchewan Legislative Building in Regina for signing by members of the public.
