Regulatory experts from all over the country are attending a two-day conference in Regina to discuss how to modernize the regulatory system and make it more transparent, customer-focused and outcome-based.
Regulatory modernization is a key component of the Government of Saskatchewan's strategy to increase business and economic competitiveness. The conference will provide an opportunity for provincial public servants to learn, exchange ideas and network with other professionals involved in regulatory modernization. Dr. Malcolm Sparrow, an internationally renowned regulatory expert and professor at Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government will be the guest speaker.
"Our regulatory regime is very competitive but we want to keep it relevant, enforceable and dynamic in order to make it attractive to businesses wanting to invest in our province," Enterprise Minister Ken Cheveldayoff said. "We want our public servants to sharpen their knowledge, understanding and skills of regulatory modernization and keep Saskatchewan ahead of the competition."
Enterprise Saskatchewan (ES), the government's economic development agency, has established the Regulatory Modernization Council (RMC) to provide advice to the ES board on ways to enhance regulatory service and ensure a competitive regulatory environment. The RMC is composed of stakeholders from the private sector, including those representing small, medium and large businesses in the province who are directly impacted by regulations.
The conference runs October 21-22, at the Hotel Saskatchewan Radisson Plaza in Regina.
