Saskatchewan producers are reminded of recent changes to the Wildlife Damage Compensation Program. The program now offers 100 per cent compensation for claims of $150 and over.
"All Saskatchewan producers are eligible to receive full compensation under this program," Agriculture Minister Bob Bjornerud said. "We continue to improve the Wildlife Damage Compensation and Crop Insurance programs to meet the needs of farmers and ranchers."
In addition to increasing the compensation level from 80 to 100 per cent in 2009, the program now provides compensation to bee producers for damage caused by bears to bee hives and huts, loss of honey production, and loss of honey bees and leaf cutter bee larvae.
The Wildlife Damage Compensation Program also provides compensation on all seeded commercial crops, stacked hay, silage, bales, market gardens, tree nurseries and sod farms for damage caused by white-tailed deer, mule deer, antelope, elk, moose, bison, bears, ducks, geese and sandhill cranes that have not been held in captivity.
The Wildlife Damage Compensation Program is administered by the Saskatchewan Crop Insurance Corporation (SCIC). There are no producer premiums and producers do not require a crop insurance contract in order to receive compensation.
