PREMIER DECLARES “GREEN WEEK” IN SASKATCHEWAN

Released on November 23, 2009

Premier Brad Wall has declared the next seven days leading up to the Grey Cup to be "Green Week" in Saskatchewan and is encouraging everyone to show their Rider Pride by wearing Rider green to work, school, or wherever else they might be.

"It was truly amazing to see the sea of green in Mosaic Stadium on Sunday, and this week, I think we're going to see that sea of green become a tidal wave that washes across the entire province and then spreads west to Calgary for Sunday's Grey Cup," Wall said. "Congratulations to the Saskatchewan Roughriders and the Rider Nation for going back to the Grey Cup for the second time in three years - the first time that's happened since the 1960s."

Wall said he expects that the Alouettes will be picked as the favorites heading into Sunday's game.

"That's just perfect," Wall said. "All season, this Rider team has been beating expectations, right from the start of the season when many of the football experts in this country were picking them to finish last in the west.

"I think it's a real tribute to Coach Ken Miller and the quiet confidence he has instilled in this team all season. You don't see them dancing around after every first down, but you know they absolutely expect to win every game, and they will be ready to win this Sunday."

Wall said he looks forward to seeing the Rider Nation take over Calgary this week.

"You know, for the past couple of years, we've been trying to get everyone to come back to Saskatchewan from Calgary," Wall said. "This week, we're going to see all the traffic going the other way, and I'm okay with that. The crowd noise from the Rider fans made a huge difference yesterday at Mosaic, and it's going to make a huge difference this Sunday at McMahon Stadium."
