SASKWATER AND THE MOSAIC COMPANY SIGN CONTRACT – WORK BEGINS ON MAJOR WATER PROJECT

Released on November 20, 2009

SaskWater and The Mosaic Company recently made it official, signing a contract making SaskWater the provider of non-potable water for the solution potash mine in Belle Plaine.

The relationship began when Mosaic Belle Plaine requested a proposal from SaskWater to accommodate an expansion to its solution mine. SaskWater has existing infrastructure in the area, as the provincial Crown Corporation currently provides service to Yara, Terra Grain Fuels Inc. and The Canadian Salt Company.

"We are pleased to add Mosaic to our non-potable customers in the Belle Plaine area," SaskWater President Stuart Kramer said. "This project will prove to be very beneficial to all parties involved."

"Mosaic is pleased to be working with SaskWater on this important project," Potash Operations for The Mosaic Company Senior Vice President Norm Beug said. "SaskWater has already provided value to our expansion and we look forward to a successful long term relationship."

Work already underway includes stripping of the pipeline right-of-way in preparation for the installation of augered crossings and buried pipe. White marker buoys have been placed in the water of Buffalo Pound Lake at the pump station to mark the existing intakes. A silt curtain is being used to contain any sediment plume from the earth infill and construction activities that will take place in the water and to protect the habitat outside the curtain. As a part of the environmental regulations for in-water work, all sizes of fish within the curtain area were salvaged and re-established in the lake. As well, turbidity monitoring is taking place inside and out of the curtain to ensure the project is within regulatory limits.

Construction will continue over the winter and be completed in the fall of 2010.

SaskWater has supplied water to Mosaic's Colonsay mine for more than 40 years and also provides water to several other potash mines in the province.
