Staff and residents showed off their $10.4 million building expansion today at the grand opening of the Preeceville and District Health Centre. The facility integrates long-term care, community health services and acute care services for Preeceville and surrounding communities.
Health Minister Don McMorris and Deputy Premier, Education Minister and Canora-Pelly MLA Ken Krawetz joined Preeceville Mayor Garth Harris and Sunrise Regional Health Authority Chairperson Greg Kobylka in officially opening the expanded and renovated facility.
"The Government of Saskatchewan is committed to creating safer, more comfortable environments for patients, long-term care residents and health providers, support staff and volunteers," McMorris told the crowd at the event. "It's great to see the way the Preeceville Hospital building has been transformed into a larger, integrated health facility that better serves the community's health needs."
"Infrastructure improvements like this are incredibly important to Saskatchewan communities," Krawetz said. "A revitalized health centre like this sends a clear message that Saskatchewan is investing in the health and well-being of our people and our communities."
The new wing replaces the Preeceville Lions Housing building that, until June, served long-term care residents.
"Having related health services in the same building makes for better co-ordinated care and less disruption," Kobylka said. "We want to provide more patient-centred care, and this new arrangement is a big step toward that goal."
"The people of Preeceville, Sturgis and neighbouring communities are proud to support the building expansion that resulted in this integrated health centre," Harris said. "Reliable and sustainable health services are fundamentally important to the health of a community and its people."
The provincial government contributed $6.7 million toward the project, with area municipalities and fund-raising providing the remaining $3.7 million.
Sunrise Health Region's 2,834 employees serve about 57,000 residents in east central Saskatchewan.
