PREMIER BRAD WALL IN WASHINGTON THIS WEEK FOR MEETINGS WITH SENATORS, TOP WHITE HOUSE CLIMATE CHANGE ADVISOR

Released on November 17, 2009

Premier Brad Wall is heading to Washington Wednesday for three days of meetings with top Senators and President Obama's senior advisor on energy and climate change.

"American leaders continue to show a lot of interest in Saskatchewan's massive energy resources, and our leadership position in carbon capture and sequestration," Wall said. "This is another chance for us to tell the Saskatchewan story to influential policy makers in the U.S. capital."

Wall will meet in the White House with Ms. Carol Browner, Assistant to the President for Energy and Climate Change. He will also be meeting with:

  • Senator John Kerry (D-MA), Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee;
  • Senator James Inhofe (R-OK), Ranking Member of the Senate's Environment and Public Works Committee; and
  • Tom Donohue, President of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Institute for 21st Century Energy Roundtable.

Wall will also be following up with Senators Lindsey Graham and Kay Hagan, who visited Saskatchewan in September as part of the first official visit to Saskatchewan by United States Senators.

Wall's visit to Washington, DC will also focus on trade with the United States.

"Every chance I get, I will speak about the importance of avoiding things like Buy American policies that interrupt what is an effective and profitable integrated supply chain between Canada and the United States," Wall said. "Whether it's agricultural implements, manufactured goods or top quality food, everyone benefits from free and unencumbered trade."
